Pro Tip: I highly recommend creating and ordering sample copies before you start selling them, so you aren’t “working out the bugs” on a client deadline.
Some of the most common mistakes made when ordering for the first time are:
Ordering the wrong binding (You want “Perfect Binding” not stapled. Stapled is cheaper but so is the paper quality which can cause problems in the shadows of your images.)
Wrong color space. Make sure all your images are in sRGB before bringing them into the template.
Double check your content in the preview of Magcloud so you don’t cut off any copy. The template is currently formatted in the “safe zone” but if you make any customizations you may need to be extra aware of the margins.
Full spreads: This is literally the BAIN of my existance and easily the most ANNOYING part of putting these together. Canva and photoshop do not make it easy. Remember that this is NOT a layflat album and information will get lost in the fold, which luckily for us also means the image on the left and right spread do NOT have to match up exactly, but you still want to strive for as close as possible. The table of contents page where one image crosses the spread is the only other place to watch for this. Remember: DO NOT put important content in the middle of the spread as it will be lost in the fold. Be strategic and choose long, horizontal images where your clients head (or other important bits) are all the way left or right.
Always double check your page numbers match your table of contents. If you don’t make any edits to the template itself you’ll be good to go. But if you add or remove any spreads you will also need to edit page numbers and table of contents.
