Our First Annual Mod Bettie Field Trip!

For folx who want to immerse themselves in a perfectly curated, luxury portrait experience that explores the beauty of Venice and themselves.
How it Works
Imagine, an empowerment photographer and a travel designer had a baby.
That’s how we roll.
the process
1. RESERVE YOUR DREAM EXPERIENCE
Once all of your questions have been answered, it’s time to book! You will pay a deposit through the website to secure your reservation and complete a detailed intake form so that we can curate your Mod Bettie On-Location Portrait Session to your specific needs and desires. We will also send lodging suggestions and information for where we will do hair and makeup and where the hosts will be staying, so you can find a place to stay that fits your personal budget and additional travel! (We will also start a group chat with the other guests so you can meet and coordinating rooming together to save on cost and make new friends!)
2. WELCOME EMAIL
September 1, 2024 you’ll receive a welcome email to map out what to expect between now and our trip. Next summer (2025) you will receive a checklist of what exactly to pack, reassurance that it’s ok to still overpack, details on what to expect for your portrait session and tips for booking your flight and ideas for extending your trip experience.
You will receive a solo retreat guide from our FAV travel designer Anna VanAgtmael of Wandering Roots, so you can explore Venice before and after your portrait session. Every restaurant, venue and excursion option has been experienced by ourselves and/or a trusted industry colleague. We have exactly what you’re hoping to find as well as what you absolutely do not want to find, such as an IG photo-op that is not worth the out-of-way three hour walk.
3. TRAVEL INSURANCE + FLIGHTS
We will find and help you book the cheapest flight possible. Then we will recommend the most affordable travel insurance that suits your needs. Travel insurance is not required but we highly recommend it to guarantee every unexpected cancellation is fully covered.
4. ANXIETY-REMOVAL CHECK-IN
2 weeks before the Field-Trip we will meet virtually so that everyone can get to know each other and l’ll answer any and all questions and will not rest until you are anxiety-free. We will show you what to pack and review the full experience in detail.
5. VENICE
Alas! The fun part! You show up ready to explore and unwind and experience an unforgettable adventure that rocks your world. Let us take care of YOU for once.

6. YOUR DREAM MOD BETTIE PORTRAIT SESSION
After reserving your spot you will choose either October 13th, 14th or 15th for your scheduled session (Please let me know ASAP if you have a specific request for one of those days if it works best for your personal travel plans) We will start hair and makeup at 8am each day and the 3 scheduled Bettie’s will spend the day moving to all my favorite spots. That way everyone gets a sunset shot, gondola shot and allllll the other dreamy places I have planned.
THE (OPTIONAL) ITINERARY
Anna requires a high level of wow factor in her solo travel guides. A zero indicator for stress and a qualifying time of day to best optimize the experience - which is code for avoiding crowds and having the perfect daylight for selfies (and Mod Bettie Portraits).

we’re Elise + Jennifer + Anna – the ARTISTS and multi-passionate entrepreneurs behind MOD BEttiE PORtrAIT BOUTIQUE & WANDERING ROOTS
I (Elise) first met Jennifer Bartlett in 2014 at the very first portfolio shoot for Mod Bettie. I remember the exact moment I was standing over her on a ladder as she Marylyn Monroe’s the hell out of that bed and I asked her if she’d work with me forever. SWOON. 10 years and thousands of Bettie’s later, I can’t imagine Mod Bettie without her. Not only her wildly talented hair and makeup abilities, but the beautiful way she holds space for others is unmatched.
In 2017, Anna booked me for her very first empowerment session at a pivotal point in her life, of saying “yes,” trying new things and “burning her life down.” Shortly after becoming fast friends she left her full-time job and started Wandering Roots as I built Naughty Bettie. We’ve hosted 22 retreats together all over the world and have seamlessly molded our two passions and talents together supporting each other in entrepreneurship, and cheerleading along the way.
I feel like the LUCKIEST to have had these two women by my side the last decade and look forward to all the magic yet to be made!

As seasoned travelers and retreat hosts, we know that life happens and plans need to be cancelled.
Sign up for our field-trip and you will receive a welcome email with what to expect over the coming months. Included in this email is a link to purchase travel insurance.
My bestie Anna at Wandering Roots, has partnered with two companies to provide you with extensive coverage at very affordable rates.
If you follow through with your end of the work and purchase travel insurance, you will be covered during your trip or your investment will be reimbursed if you can no longer attend.
Basically, we’ll do everything in our power to make sure you’re over-the-moon happy, even if something comes up that keeps you from ultimately joining us.

No, this is not a Wandering Roots retreat, but instead a Field Trip! There are no scheduled excursions or activities outside of the planned portrait session or accommodations. This is the Luxury, Mod Bettie Portrait Session we are known for, but out of the studio and in VENICE! We will consult as a small, intimate group meetups to explore and meals to share! (Wandering Roots always knows the best spots!)

Though our FAV chef Abbey can be found bopping around Venice post Dolomites retreat, she will not be cooking for us on this one. Meals will not be provided though we will always communicate as a group in the hopes we can go to dinner together after sessions wrap! We will have charcuterie and snacks on shoot days for each guest throughout the long day!

No. Flights and a car from the airport are not included. The nice thing about Venice is once you land at the airport, an Uber or taxi is all you need and are easy to book. We will reach out closer to the trip with tips on booking the most cost efficient flights to make it as easy as possible on you. You will also be booking your own hotel or airbnb accommodations so you can work with your personal budget. Plus you can connect with other guests to room together and save more!

Perfect! We love solo travelers and believe it’s the best way to meet people and make new friends! We pinky promise that every single guest (and host) is nervous about showing up and being loved and accepted for who they are and not someone they are trying to be. You are not alone in this and you will be in the best company. We have perfected the art of creating besties out of strangers.
